Recallium gives your coding agents durable project memory. Run the installer once, connect the agents already on your machine, and continue working in your repository.

Before you begin

  • Node.js 22 or later
  • Git, for coding agents. Claude Desktop does not need it.
  • A supported coding agent installed on your computer
  • Recallium Cloud access
To check your versions and install what is missing, see Prerequisites. Or have your agent check them: copy these instructions and paste them into it. Already using Recallium Community? Move your projects and memories first. See Migrate from Recallium Community.
The installer detects supported agents on your machine. The list depends on your operating system. See Supported clients.

Connect to Recallium Cloud

1

Run the installer

One command wires every agent it finds on your machine and signs you in once. Run it again at any time to pick up a new agent.
The installer shows what it will change before it writes anything. If it stops or reports a problem, see Prerequisites and troubleshooting.
On Windows, PowerShell can block this command with running scripts is disabled on this system. See Troubleshooting to allow scripts for your account.
2

Authorize this client and choose your agents

The installer opens an interactive screen.
The Recallium installer showing the authorize step, the install mode selector, and the list of detected and additional agents

The Recallium installer: authorize the client, then pick the agents to connect.

  1. Authorize this client. Complete the browser sign-in flow. The screen shows Client authorized when it succeeds.
  2. Pick your agents. Under Found on this machine, select the agents you want to connect. Under More IDEs / agents, select any agent you use that the installer did not detect. Press space to pick one, or a to select all.
  3. Start. Press s to apply the plan. The installer adds the MCP connection, Recallium guidance, and supported hooks for each selected agent.
3

Add the Claude Desktop plugin (chat agents only)

Chat agents such as Claude Desktop need one additional plugin. It carries the Recallium skill only. Its tools come from the connector that the installer registers in Claude Desktop.
  1. Download Claude-Desktop-Chat-Plugin.zip. Keep it zipped.
  2. In Claude Desktop, open Customize > Plugins. Select Add, then select Upload plugin.
  3. Choose the zip. Recallium appears in your plugins and asks which project to load when a technical chat begins.
For screenshots of each screen, see Configure Recallium for chat apps.
4

Check the connection

Some agents ask you to authenticate the Recallium MCP server before first use. See Configure IDEs.Confirm the client, sign-in, and agent connections.
If a connection needs attention, run:
5

Open a repository and start working

Start your coding agent inside a Git repository. Recallium derives the project name from the repository and loads its context at the beginning of the session.Try asking:
What decisions and open tasks should I know about before I change the authentication flow?
On a new repository, ask your agent to create a Recallium project when it first has durable context to save.
If an existing Recallium project uses a different name from the repository, map it once with git config --local recallium.projectName existing-project-name.

Remove Recallium

To disconnect some agents, open the installer in uninstall mode and clear the agents you want to remove:
To remove everything, including every agent connection, the plugin, and the Recallium home directory, run:

Your first useful workflow

Once connected, use Recallium through normal conversation with your agent:
  1. Resume: “Load the Recallium context for this project.”
  2. Research: “Search Recallium for prior decisions about authentication.”
  3. Work: Make the change with your agent.
  4. Capture: “Save the decision and link the files we changed.”
  5. Return later: Ask a new agent session why the implementation works this way.
